Is it true that season 3 will air the first 12 episodes in a row without any reruns? And if so, do you know how long the winter hiatus will be and when it will start and end? Thanks in advance!!

Here is the post I did on this back in May, but yes, that is the format that ABC announced they wanted to follow for their big dramas (Greys, Scandal, OUAT, Revenge) during the upfronts.  As of now, Scandal currently has an order for 22 episodes this season, so they will most likely have some variation on that (10 eps and then 12 eps perhaps) unless they get the additional 2 episodes added later.

ABC has yet to release the exact dates around the winter hiatus, but with October 3rd as the confirmed start date, that would mean they should finish in early December  (depending on if they skip airing an original episode on Thanksgiving night which they usually do.)

The length of the break has yet to be disclosed, but I would suspect it could be in the 8 week range (at least) because it appears ABC wants to try to do some short run original programming during the hiatus period.  I wouldn’t expect to see Scandal back until sometime around February Sweeps (tent. scheduled for 1/30/14 - 2/26/14)

This is all speculation on my part as far as timing, but that’s my take. As we know, things can change!  Thanks for the question! :)

Hi Sabia I want to thank you for your fantastic Scandal blog I have over the past 2 days read all 165 pages. I'm new to Scandal only watching Season 1 just before Season 2 started in the UK on July 4th since then I have become completely obsessed by it consuming all that is Olitz, watching the You Tube videos reading tumblr blogs following all the cast tweets and instagrams. The thing is I'm honestly having trouble functioning in real life because of it am I going mad do you have any advise?

And please try to take the day following an airing of Scandal off from work.  Trust me, you’ll need to.

Thanks so much for reading my blog!

Won't Tony have to miss some episodes due to his new series being picked up by WE?

Asked by Anonymous

Based on previous tweets from Tony, he said he expected the new series to shoot during hiatuses from Scandal, so it sounds like he doesn’t expect to have to miss any episodes, but you never know.  He’s executive producer, but it also depends on whether and how many episodes of the new series he actually directs himself.

Why are people saying there aren't any Olitz scenes in the premiere eppy? Is there a script floating around somewhere?

Asked by Anonymous

I would guess that most of the speculation is based on the casting sides.  In order to cast the guest characters (e.g. a doctor who may give a diagnosis in a particular scene, or a delivery person, or a waiter with a speaking role of some sort), certain pages of the script are released so actors can audition and be cast for those smaller roles.

However, while the casting sides may provide information about parts of an episode, they don’t include scenes where only regular or recurring cast are present (because there are no guest characters that would need to be cast).

So if there were any scenes with only Olivia and Fitz, or only other regular cast members, those scenes would not be available in the casting sides.  And since regular (or recurring) cast only scenes would not be released, there is no way to know for sure until the episode airs unless some crafty person gets information from another source.

Episode 201 had no Olitz except for that wonderful phone call, but that phone call was epic, so we’ll have to wait and see!

EDITED TO ADD:  Thanks for the response messages folks! The inbox flurry was fast and furious!  Just to clarify though, I’m not saying I think there will or won’t be an Olitz scene, I’m saying we won’t know most likely until the episode airs.  After the finale, with even not all the cast knowing how the episode ended, I don’t think we can make any assumptions one way or the other with Shonda!  And we know she was doing re-writes up until close to the table read, so who knows what’s going on!

Have you noticed Fitz never plays on Olivia's hair? Even when they have sex, he never grabs or runs his fingers through her hair. Have you ever seen her play with her hair? Most people with long hair will usually do something, even if it's to push it out the way.

Black Girl Rule: Don’t go foraging in my hair unless you’re prepared for what you find in there.

Black women’s hair is a complex and delicate creature.  Only a chosen few are allowed to be digging up in it, and even then, only during sanctioned “activities.” And even then we reserve the right to revoke them.   :)

POLL RESULTS: Who Released Olivia’s Name to the Press?
Well the votes are in and somebody can tell Mellie she finally won at something, cuz girlfriend, yo’ huzbin gon’ girl.  He gone!
With a relatively slim lead, Mellie was chosen as the most likely culprit in outing Olivia to the press.  Some people get so touchy when their husbands tell them they gots to roll up out of the White House cuz he’s don’t want you, never has and is soul-deep in love with another woman so can you move you stuff out as soon as possible please so we can get the decorators in to re-do the East Wing for her?  Sensitive!
A close second was Rowan, aka Bad Daddy no one cares about cuz we’re all still mad about Olitz (I kid - not really).  Maybe he should switch cell carriers cuz he missed Olivia’s text message that she already broke up with Fitz like so five minutes ago.
Rounding out the top three, our own beloved curly-haired POTUS himself.  Could he be trying to force Olivia’s hand to come back to him and break-up his marriage in one go? Self-destructive, but effective.  I don’t think so, but it’s Shondaland, so who knows?
Cyrus and Joke were non-starters for the most part with neither of them getting as many votes as the “Other” category where we have the following top write-in candidates:
Harrison “GQ” Wright
Billy “Scissors” Chambers
Edison “Puddin” Davis
We also had a few stray votes for Abby, Gov. Reston, Huck (now THAT would be a twist!) and even Olivia her damn self.  Very interesting!
And finally, a few comments from voters:

"I don’t think it’s Rowan.  This would only serve to bring these two together. Something always brings them back to each other. "
"I think its Mellie, because after Fitz told Mellie Olivia’s plan, he left her with nothing to lose."
"Rowan doesn’t want Olivia with Fitz. The question is why. I think it has to largely do with what happened in Operation Remington."

Thanks again everyone for the great response!  More polls to come! High-res

POLL RESULTS:  What’s Your Favorite Olitz-Centric Episode?
Well the votes are in and the definitive winner is the newcomer of the bunch, "A Woman Scorned" episode 220.
The “Watch me earn you” countdown-the-clock episode has quickly replaced even the iconic “One minute” episode that is "The Trail" by a hefty margin.  And as much as we all loved the Rose Garden scene in episode 208 “Happy Birthday Mr. President”, it only came in third, but still very close to it’s second place counterpart.

"A Woman Scorned" has a lot going for it - the amazing Olitz scenes notwithstanding, it was also directed by Tony Goldwyn, so that adds a little extra luster I’m sure.

Here are a few comments left by voters:

"220 Because Liv and Fitz finally were on the same pg….It is a beautiful exploration of how it will be when they finally get together."
"I picked 2:08 because when I watched it I screamed out loud when they start to make love in the oval office. I have never since seen anything so erotic as that"
"I voted for 220 because it was everything to me, just the lines alone…"Earn Me!", "sit with me Liv and watch me choose you." As someone said this was my season finale.

We’ll see what Season 3 holds, but I must admit that I am having an imaginary “Earn me!” speech with the Scandal writers in my head already.
Thanks again to everyone for voting - great response again and more to come as we survive the long hiatus together.
Have a happy and safe holiday weekend ScandalFam! High-res

Scandal Season 2 Finale Poll Results: What did you think of the Scandal Season Finale - “White Hat’s Back On”?
And the winner is a resounding Boo! at 47%.  If you combine the people who didn’t like it with those who weren’t totally repulsed by it, that will bring you to a total of 76%
This leaves only 24% who actually liked the episode. (Sabia Says: Good for y’all, but I ain’t the one.)
Here are a few comments left by voters:

"I think last night’s finale was a great reality check for me. I was totally obsessed with Scandal and Olitz this season and spent a great deal of time watching and rewatching both season one and season two episodes, reading about the show and the cast, etc. But now I am all over that and can look forward to a summer and a mindset that’s fairly Scandal free, Thank God! " "SR squandered an opportunity that comes once in a blue moon:to challenge our obsession with facade; to hold each other and our leaders to unrealistic standards and thereby dehumanize them and each other. God, I hate soap dramas and for the last 9 episodes I held a fragile hope that she would not destroy the idea of Scandal. But alas, I was wrong. It would appear the tried and tired method of GA and PP - which stopped me watching because of this very nonsensical ping-pong style that test the patience and credulity of even the most devoted - is to be afflicted on the Scandal storyline.""I wanted Scandal to be bold and push forward the storyline of a politician who wants to govern minus his/her sham marriage. Fitz and Mellie’s marriage is an epic failure and the storyline is depressing as hell to watch. It’s not entertaining. Also, Fitz and Olivia breaking up again—unless it’s an act to fool the people watching them—has turned me off the show."
